About the Honorary Diet & Metabolic Physician Consultant
Dr. Arunachalam Ragunathan
Honorary Diet & Metabolic Physician Consultant
Dr. Arunachalam Ragunathan serves as the Honorary Diet & Metabolic Physician Consultant to Gene’n Genie, bringing to the practice an unusually broad clinical and administrative background that spans anaesthesiology, family medicine, hospital administration, and applied behavioural coaching, alongside a sustained academic interest in metabolic nutrition.
His qualifications include an MBBS; an MD in Anaesthesiology; a DNB in Anaesthesiology; an M.Med in Family Medicine; an MBA in Hospital Administration; and certification as an NLP Master Practitioner and Coach. This combination reflects a career built across several distinct but connected disciplines — acute clinical medicine, primary and family-oriented care, the systems and administration of healthcare delivery, and the behavioural and communication skills that shape how patients actually engage with medical advice.
It is this multidisciplinary foundation that informs his role at Gene’n Genie. Anaesthesiology and family medicine have grounded him in the physiology of acute and chronic illness alike; hospital administration has given him a systems-level understanding of how care is organised and delivered; and his training as an NLP coach reflects a particular interest in how patients are guided, motivated and supported through long-term behavioural change — a factor that matters as much as clinical knowledge when it comes to sustained dietary intervention.
Dr. Ragunathan’s clinical and academic interests centre on metabolic health, metabolic nutrition and metabolic medicine, with a particular focus on low-carbohydrate nutritional approaches and their role in conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, PCOS and broader women’s metabolic health, and other chronic lifestyle-associated metabolic disorders. He is currently in the final stage of doctoral (PhD) research related to low-carbohydrate diet and nutrition — work that reflects Gene’n Genie’s broader ambition to contribute meaningfully to the evidence base in this field, rather than simply apply existing knowledge.
Within Gene’n Genie, his role is to provide honorary clinical and academic consultation — lending medical and metabolic expertise to the dietary and nutritional strategies developed for patients, and helping ensure that the practice’s approach remains grounded in sound physiological and clinical reasoning. He works alongside the broader Gene’n Genie team to help shape an approach to metabolic nutrition that is individualised, evidence-informed and clinically considered.
Dr. Ragunathan’s presence at Gene’n Genie reflects the organisation’s underlying philosophy: that meaningful dietary care for chronic metabolic disease cannot be separated from medical understanding, and that the two must work in close partnership — a partnership his own varied training embodies.
